CASALE DEL GIGLIO

Petit Verdot di Casale Del Giglio

In 1967, Dino Santarelli, fascinated by the Agro Pontino, created “Casale del Giglio”, in Le Ferriere, not far from the ancient city of “Satricum”, in the province of Latina, about 50 km south of Rome.
Compared to other areas of Lazio and other Regions of Italy, this territory represented a new environment, all to be explored from a wine-growing point of view. The first important results on Syrah and Petit Verdot red grapes and white ones such as Sauvignon, Viognier and Petit Manseng gave rise to various single grape or assembly labels. To date Casale del Giglio has 180 hectares of vineyards introducing new varieties. The vinification of the Petit Verdot is partly carried out with a submerged cap for the extraction of the sweetest tannins and partly with punching down to obtain a good extraction of the color. It has an intense perfume and a nice roundness.
