Il Poggione estate was founded at the end of the 19th century by Lavinio Franceschini, landowner of Florence. It was among the first to market Brunello di Montalcino since the early 1900s and one of the founding members of the Brunello di Montalcino Consortium. The Il Poggione estate extends for about 530 hectares of which 140 of the Brunello vineyard is the prince of Montalcino wines. It is produced exclusively with Sangiovese grapes harvested by hand and coming from the oldest vineyards of the company. After careful fermentation at controlled temperature, the wine ages in French oak barrels. Subsequently, it spends a period of refinement in the bottle, indispensable to guarantee the pleasantness and complexity that have made Brunello di Montalcino famous all over the world.
